La Salada & Ve d´Avior Tasting

Come and join us for a tasting on Saturday July 8th, around 12pm. A Refreshing Summery Spanish Wine Tasting if you will – and we hope you will.

The air starts to fill up with smells of sun lotion and bare skin, which means summer is here and we are graciously enjoying the longest days of the year. And the longer our days, the more opportunities there are for feasting al fresco. Crisp summer salads as well as grill-marked vegetables and protein can’t be missing at the table, and neither can chilled wine. As Tom Wambsgans from Succession put it: “You know that very cold glass of wine? I f*ng love that!”

Well, here’s the good news. A shipment of wines came in fresh from Catalunya, provided by our friends from La Salada. In their biodynamic vineyards in Penedès, winemakers Toni and Anna Carbó make sure the soil is as alive and kicking as the wines it brings forth. All of their wines are fermented with the skins and yet retain plentiful freshness and thirst-quenchingness. And yes, they go amazingly well with salty foods and salads – it’s in the name – not to mention grilled fish.

Featuring:

‘Malvasia de Banyalbufar’, to be precise. This contemporary yet elegant white wine revives this local grape variety ‘from the past’, now living life to the fullest.

If it wasn’t for third-generation winemaker Cati, her vineyards would still yield the usual, international grape varieties. Thank goodness this is not a mediocre Chardonnay and an exciting blend of Giró Ros and Malvasia instead!

A balanced red cuvée, showcasing all the original red grapes from Mallorca: Escursac, Callet and Callet Negrella.

At the heart of this pét-nat is a concoction of early-harvest Giró Ros and late-harvest Prensal Blanc, adding up to wonderful tension and complexity.

After a hailstorm hit the vineyard, Cati harvested the surviving grapes (Callet, Escursac, Gorgollassa, Esperó de Gall and Mantonegro) and direct-pressed them to make this heroic rosé.
