Sicily is a fertile island where a lot of wine is grown by mainly large companies. Far removed from this mass production, Vino Lauria is located in the hills around Alcamo, near Palermo.

Vito Lauria is at the helm and has been releasing wines under his own name since 2010. His grandfather started growing wine in 1958, but had to shut down the business in 1993 due to economic setbacks. Vito was willing to breathe new life into the family business and started studying oenology in Friuli. After graduating in 2003, he worked for several wineries in the north of Italy before returning to Sicily in 2005. Until 2010, Vito worked hard to rebuild the family business and also started earning extra money (as an advisory winemaker) at other wine producers in the area.

Vito works completely organically and uses as little added sulphite as possible in its wines. The blue grapes are grown on clay soils, while the white grapes are grown on calcareous soils. Indigenous grapes such as cattaratto, frappato, nero d’avola, zibibbo, grillo and nerello mascalese are planted.

The wines of Vino Lauria let you taste the terroir of the west coast of Sicily. The salty tones from the Mediterranean Sea and the warm climate provide body and minerality. The wines are balanced, fresh and all have that Sicilian character.
