Jean-Marie Bouzereau

The Bouzereau family has been cultivating vines in Meursault for more than ten generations. Jean-Marie Bouzereau settled in 1994, taking over part of the family estate. With his two winegrower grandfathers, one in Meursault and the other in Volnay, Jean-Marie Bouzereau can count himself rich in the family heritage of vines and wine.

After his studies at the CFPPA (designs and organizes training courses for professionals, future professionals and companies in the agricultural and agri-food sectors) in Beaune, he decided to do an internship in the United States for six months, and after, he worked in Australia. Enriched by these experiences and by many encounters with other producers, he settled in Meursault following his father, Pierre Bouzereau-Emonin.

“Wine is the expression of my passion for the land where I was born.
It is a permanent, incessant search for the perfect combination
between the terroir, the grape variety and the winemaker.”

The estate extends over nine hectares between the villages of Volnay, Pommard and Beaune for the reds, and the villages of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet for the whites. The harvest is done manually when the grapes are ripe (without over-ripeness).

The reds are sorted and destemmed, then macerated a few days before the start of fermentation without adding yeast. The fermentation lasts about fifteen days. Then, the aging is done in barrels for a variable period depending on the cuvées and the vintages. Bottling is done without filtration.

The whites ferment in barrels and remain on the lees until the following summer. They are bottled during the winter, after a light filtration. The use of new barrels remains moderate and varies from 10 to 30% depending on the vintage.

Bouzereau grows aligoté, chardonnay and pinot noir. The style of winemaking is very visible in the wines of Bouzereau; a perfect harmony between ripe fruit in combination with fine acidity and an elegant touch of the use of oak. This reflects the character of the Meursault wines very well.
