Radikon – The old and the new

Radikon – The old and the new

When Stanko Radikon died in 2016, son Saša faced a herculean task. His father became internationally renowned for his eccentric winemaking from the nineties onwards. Besides working closely with nature and leaving aside additives, he revived the age-old craft of skin-contact wine – aka orange wine – and put this wine style back on the wine menu.

Saša has certainly kept his father’s spirit alive, as evidenced by his continuation of the various wines that his father made. These are bold, complex and age-worthy orange wines made from local grapes like Jakot, Ribolla Gialla, among other, but also light reds made from Pignolo.

To this traditional range of wines, Saša has added his own line of wines – the S-line – which reflects his personal approach to winemaking. The result is a series of refreshing as well as complex wines, using both local grapes and cosmopolites such as Chardonnay and Merlot. In addition, Saša favors shorter maceration, which makes for more refined and refreshing wines.

In other words, since Saša took over in 2016, he sparkled up the Radikon winery with his new additions, while at the same time maintaining the time-honoured techniques developed by his father in accordance with local tradition. A perfect balance between the old and the new.
