A lesson in Portuguese wine: 'palhete' denotes light red wines ( or robust rosé, depending on how you look at it) that mainly use both red and white grapes. This style of wine is typical of the region and once originated as 'leftover' grapes were used to fill large earthenware pots ('talhas'). Anyway. In the case of Luis Gil, this makes for a wine full of character. The ripest grapes make for a layered, complex drinking experience.
