Dönnhoff

Weingut Dönnhoff is located in a picturesque valley, Oberhausen, on the river Nahe. The family has been making wine in this region since 1780.

Dönnhoff’s wines are such a great success because of the top locations of the vineyards, among other things. Hermann Dönnhoff (1880-1953) focused early on growing Rieslings in prime locations. As early as the 1920s, he bottled his best wines and sold them under the name of the vineyards. His son Hermann Jr. was responsible for the construction of the wine press house in 1936 and the first cellar rooms of the winery.

Helmut Dönnhoff, who took over in the 1970s, is a true master of white wine. His domain now covers about 25 hectares, of which 80% is planted with Riesling and the rest with Grau- and Weissburgunder. Helmut laid the foundations for international success and shaped the reputation of great German Rieslings worldwide for his consistent style and the quality of his wines.

The deep understanding of great wines and great locations was passed down from grandfather to son to grandson. In the cellars, traditional work is done with stainless steel barrels and old wooden casks.

The fourth generation has now taken over: Cornelius Dönnhoff. He started his training in 1999 and, after several internships abroad, was responsible for the vineyards and cellar from 2007. Today he has full responsibility. The story continues, the winery remains what it is: a family business in the truest sense of the word.

The strength of Dönnhoff’s wines lies in the incredible balance between minerality, fruit and ripe acidity.
